Clearing
Before returning a leased vehicle or selling your vehicle, be sure to clear out any programmed HomeLink buttons. To do this, simply press and hold the outer two HomeLink buttons for 10 seconds, until the HomeLink indicator light changes from solid to blinking.
Welcome to HomeLink training for garage door openers.
- Before programming HomeLink®, make sure that people and objects are out of the way, and park your vehicle outside of the garage.
- Before we begin, it is important to note that some hand held garage door remotes use two separate buttons to control UP, or open, and DOWN, or close, operations. Because of this, you may need to train two different buttons on your HomeLink to control your garage door.
- We recommend getting a new battery for your garage door remote for more accurate programming.
- If your garage door opener uses rolling code, you may need a stepladder or other sturdy, safe device to reach the “Learn,” “Program,” or “Smart” button later in the programming.
- For this training, we will be using HomeLink buttons 1 and 2, and then explaining rolling code training.
- Begin by pressing HomeLink button 1. The HomeLink indicator light will begin slowly flashing orange.
- Hold your garage door remote 2-7 centimeters away from the HomeLink buttons in your vehicle, and press the up, or open, button on your garage door remote. Press and hold the up, or open button for one second, then release, then press the up button again. Continue this “press and release” process until the HomeLink indicator light changes from slowly flashing orange to either solid green or rapidly flashing green.
- If your indicator light is rapidly flashing green, skip to the “Rolling Code Training” section below.
- If your garage door is controlled by only one button, your HomeLink training is complete, and your HomeLink button will now control your garage door. If your garage door remote uses separate buttons for the open and close function, continue with the following steps.
- Press button 2 on your HomeLink, and the HomeLink indicator light will begin slowly flashing orange.
- Hold your garage door remote 2-7 centimeters away from your HomeLink buttons, and press the down, or close, button on your garage door remote. Press and hold the down button for one second, then release, then press the down button again. Continue this “press and release” process until the HomeLink indicator light changes from slowly flashing orange to solid green.
- Your HomeLink buttons will now be able to control your garage door, with button 1 opening the garage, and button 2 closing it.
Rolling Code Training:
- If your HomeLink indicator light is rapidly flashing green, you have a rolling code garage door, and you will need to complete the following steps.
- A second person may make the following steps faster and easier.
- On your garage door opener in the garage, use a ladder to locate the “Learn,” “Program,” or “Smart” button on your garage door opener. Press and release this button, and depending on the brand of garage door, the indicator light may begin blinking.
- Within 20 seconds, return to your vehicle and press and release the trained HomeLink button 3 times.
- Your HomeLink will now control your garage door.
