Clearing
Before returning a leased vehicle or selling your vehicle, be sure to clear out any programmed HomeLink buttons. To do this, simply press and hold the outer two HomeLink buttons for 10 seconds, until the HomeLink indicator light changes from solid to blinking.
Welcome to HomeLink training for garage door openers.
- Before programming HomeLink®, make sure that people and objects are out of the way, and park your vehicle outside of the garage.
- We recommend getting a new battery for your garage door remote for more accurate programming.
- If your garage door opener uses rolling code, you may need a stepladder or other sturdy, safe device to reach the “Learn,” “Program,” or “Smart” button later in the programming.
- In the top left corner of your center display, press the HomeLink house icon, and then select HomeLink settings from the dropdown.
- Select “Add new HomeLink.”
- Enter a name for your HomeLink button, and press “Create HomeLink.”
- On the next screen, read and follow the programming instructions, and then press “Start.”
- After initializing, exit your vehicle, stand in front of your vehicle, and point your hand-held garage door remote at the Tesla symbol at the front of your vehicle.
- Hold the garage door remote 5-7 centimeters away from the Tesla symbol, and press and hold the garage door remote button for two seconds, then release, and repeat this press and release process.
- When HomeLink has learned the garage door remote signal, the lights on your vehicle will flash, and you can return to the driver’s seat.
- For many garage doors, pressing the “Continue” button on the next screen will complete the programming process. If training is not complete, you will be prompted to continue with the following steps.
- A second person may make the steps quicker and easier.
- On your garage door opener in the garage, use a ladder to locate the “Learn,” “Program,” or “Smart” button on your garage door opener. Press and release this button, and depending on the brand of garage door, the indicator light may begin blinking.
- Within 20 seconds, return to your vehicle and press the “Continue” button.
- Your Tesla will complete the training process, and you will have to press “Continue” one more time.
- You can test your HomeLink button by pressing it at the top of your display, and after you press “Save,” pressing the HomeLink Icon on your screen will show available HomeLink buttons, and pressing your named button will now activate your garage door.
- If your garage door is controlled by only one button, your HomeLink training is complete, and your HomeLink button will now control your garage door. If your garage door remote uses separate buttons for the open and close function, continue with the following steps.
- Select “Add new HomeLink.”
- Enter a name for your second HomeLink button, and press “Create HomeLink.”
- On the next screen, read and follow the programming instructions, and then press “Start.”
- After initializing, exit your vehicle, stand in front of your vehicle, and point your hand-held garage door remote at the Tesla symbol at the front of your vehicle.
- Hold the garage door remote 5-7 centimeters away from the Tesla symbol, and press and hold the other button on your garage door remote for two seconds, then release, and repeat this press and release process.
- When HomeLink has learned the garage door remote signal, the lights on your vehicle will flash, and you can return to the driver’s seat.
- Pressing the “Continue” button on the next screen will complete the programming process.
